While chasing the Prometheus across the Atlantic, the Aurora is struck by lightning and crashes in the Civil War South. They
are aided by a plantation owner, Saratoga Browne, whose southern charms quite undo Phileas Fogg.
While Rebecca recovers from injuries sustained in the crash, Verne argues against the institution of slavery, and
Phileas falls in love with Mrs. Browne.
Plans are made to help Union troops destroy the Prometheus, but the League of Darkness kidnaps Saratoga in an effort to keep Fogg and the Aurora out of the conflict.
Triumph and tragedy result.
